SOUTH AFRICA TOUR 14th till 23rd March 2017

We made sure we got to the airport at Brisbane in plenty of time for our 7.00 am flight to Sydney but because of bad weather in Sydney our flight was delayed 45mins in take off and then when we arrived in Sydney there was a plane with two flat tyres sitting on the apron which delayed our disembarkation by another half hour. Some of the people from our flight were able to board the flight to Johannesburg but unfortunately we were too far back in the queue and the flight took off without us. Qantas then booked us on a flight to Perth where we had to wait eight hours before we could board a flight to Johannesburg. As a peace offering they paid a taxi to a motel where we had use of a room for a few hours.

Trip Summary:


This itinerary is focused on excitement, adventure and worlds bests. On this tour you will begin in Johannesburg, one of Africa’s biggest and most vibrant cities. It is the economic capital of Africa and the gateway to Southern Africa. We stay at luxurious MonteCasino and visit world heritage site, the Cradle of Humankind Then we transfer to the Cape to enjoy the sights and sounds of Cape Town and the Winelands. Table Mountain overlooks this historical city, the world’s top tourist destination today, situated on the southern tip of Africa. The vineyards of the nearby Winelands are considered some of the world's finest. It’s all set against the backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean on the most scenic peninsula imaginable. Finally, we travel to the world renowned Kruger National Park. At Kapama Lodge in the Kruger National Park guests have the opportunity to explore Africa’s wildlife both from open vehicle and on foot. Situated on the Highveld at 2000m above sea level, Johannesburg is high and dry. Although not known as a tourist destination, there is plenty to do in Johannesburg. The home of Nelson Mandela, Sandton is Johannesburg’s new metro center with ultra-modern skyscrapers and the shopping is Africa’s best. Scattered amongst the shops are high quality restaurants that cater for all tastes.

On the northern fringes of Sandton is Tuscan themed Monte Casino, complete with a piazza, a multitude of world class restaurants and shops.

The Mpumalanga Lowveld lies between the northernmost reaches of the Drakensberg Escarpment and the Kruger National Park. It is renowned for its sub-tropical climate, scenic

landscape, great access to the game reserves and attractions of the Panorama Route.


DAY 1 – Australia to South Africa  

On arrival in Johannesburg, you will be met by our trusted Great Value Holidays Dual National Tour Host and transferred to Monte Casino Resort where we will spend the next 2 nights. Tonight we will dine at Monte Casino.

DAY 2 – Cradle of Humankind/ Magaliesberg Range    

After breakfast we will visit The Cradle of Humankind. Here, the landscape is dotted with subterranean limestone caves that have turned up a rich fossil record for human evolutionary studies, which lend credence to the 'Out of Africa' theory. Here you’ll find the places that tell the story of what the world was like when our human ancestors were evolving some two to three million years ago. Then we will visit Hartbeesport Dam in the Magaliesberg Range, a picturesque area and weekend getaway for many residents of Johannesburg where we will ride Harties cable car for a spectacular view of the region. This evening, we visit Moyo Restaurant in Melrose arch for a true African dining experience.

DAY 3– Johannesburg to CapeTown    

Today you will be transferred to the Airport in time for your flight to Cape Town. On arrival you will be transferred to our accommodation in the City Waterfront precinct. We are lucky enough to be right next door to one of the largest and the most visited shopping centre in Africa, featuring late night shopping. It will be the perfect time to collect the odd souvenir and taste the local cuisine. After an afternoon perusing the V&A Waterfront we will dine at one of its harbour adjacent restaurants.

DAY 4 – Table Mt, Winelands


This morning you will begin your day with travel by cable car to the top of Table Mt, one of the 7 wonders of the world. After enjoying the amazing views from its summit you will continue with a tour of the Cape Winelands. We visit vineyards set against a backdrop of majestic  mountains, lush valleys and quaint villages.  Highlights include lunch at an estate winery, views of historic Stellenbosch with its tree lined streets and Dutch architecture, Franschhoek Valley and endless mountain vistas. Tonight we dine at City Grill in the V&A Waterfront

      DAY 5 – Peninsula Tour

We make our way south via Hout Bay with views of Chapmans Peak along the picturesque Cape Peninsula route to the Cape of Good Hope where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. This is the edge of Africa and it dives beneath the waves in true majestic fashion leaving an awe inspiring coast line. On our return to Cape Town we travel via the naval base of Simonstown and the penguin colony at Boulder Beach. This evening we dine at Quay 4 Restaurant in the V&A Waterfront

DAY 6 – Cape Town to Kruger National Park

After a leisurely breakfast, we transfer to Cape Town Airport for our flight to Hoedspruit Airport, gateway to the Kruger National Park.  From here you will be transferred to Kapama River Lodge Private Game Reserve. This reserve is part of the Kruger National Park Game Reserve, one the world’s largest.  Here you will check in before going on an evening game drive, a true adventure in the African bush. Following the drive we return to the lodge for dinner in the Boma.

DAY 7 – Kapama Private Game Reserve


The Kruger National Park is a combination of national and private game reserves that, after the removal of internal fences in the late 1990’s created an open area approximately the size of Belgium. Its high density of wild animals includes the Big 5: lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants and buffalo. You will begin the day with a morning game drive. Who knows what you will see, as anything could pop up. Maybe a heard of Wildebeest or Zebra, a pride of Lion or a Leopard high up a tree spying the horizon for its next meal. Following the evening game drive we return for dinner under the stars in the African bush.

 DAY 8 - Kapama Private Game Reserve/Hazyview


Following your morning safari activity you will be transferred to Hulala Lakeside Resort near Hazyview. Today we will visit Hippo Hollow lodge to engage with the largest living land animals in the world during the ‘Elephant Whispers’ interaction. While at the lodge keep an eye on the river as you will see the most dangerous African animal, the Hippopotamus.


After your encounter with the elephants, you will be entertained by traditional African dancers during the ‘African Cultural Experience’ followed by an authentic African dinner.

DAY 9 – Panorama Route


Following breakfast we embark on a day of mystery as we take a trip through the South African bush along the Panorama route.  On the coach, we will enjoy a ride of discovery making our way through Blyde River Canyon, the 3rd largest canyon in the world, stand at God’s Window and gaze at Mozambique in the distance followed by a visit to the mysterious  ’Pot holes’ before returning to Hulala Lakeside resort for our ‘Farewell’ dinner.

DAY 10 – Nelspruit to Johannesburg


After a morning of leisure at your hotel we transfer to Nelspruit Airport for a scenic flight back to OR Tambo, Johannesburg. Here you will board your outbound flight home arriving back in Australia the following day following your incredible African Safari Adventure.
